New Yorkers Rise Up Action Fund

Hello! Our names our Ali Barker, Kaitlin Shinsato, Michael Randall, and Esther Devitt. We are all students at Bronxville High School, and we have created an organization called New Yorkers Rise Up. The goal of our group is to pressure our New York State lawmakers to pass sensible gun reform legislation. To achieve this, we have written a pledge stating that signatories will not vote for any state senatorial candidate who does not co-sponsor two bills: the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) bill, which ensures that those at risk of violence do not obtain weapons, and a bill extending the time period for background checks from three days to ten days.
So far, we have 46 volunteers and have collected around 500 pledges, but we hope to collect many more signatures. These pledges will remain incredibly important throughout the state senate elections, as we will keep in contact with our supporters and make sure they follow through on their promise!
In order to reach our goals, we need capital for travel, outreach, volunteer training, and maintaining our website and social media. We have been funding everything out of pocket so far, but our costs are increasing, and we need support from fellow gun reform advocates. Our withdrawal plan is to withdraw the donations from a personal bank account which will then be used to fund our organization! Cynthia Randall, the mother of one of our members, Michael Randall, will serve as beneficiary and withdraw funds into her personal bank account so that we can access them to pay for the items listed above!
After the May 18th shooting, Santa Fe High School students told reporters that they were not surprised that a mass shooting had taken place at their school. The state of fear that youths live in is unacceptable, and we are taking action to stop it. We hope to live in a world where we do not feel compelled to scout every exit each time we walk into a movie theater or participate in active shooter drills at school. The steps you are taking will ensure a safer future for the state of New York.
