The Southeast Coalition of Worcester (SEAC) and the Chinatown Main Street of Boston are proud to bring you the 2016 New England Lion Dance Competition. Our competition aims to bring together talented lion dancing groups from New England, to strengthen our community and to spread the knowledge and spirit of lion dancing.

The first local New England Annual Lion Dance Competition was hosted five years ago in Worcester, MA by Boa Newgate and Phat Nguyen. The outcome and feedback went beyond what they expected, and it soon became their mission to harness that energy and build a passionate and positive community through lion dancing as well spreading awareness of Asian Cultures through Lion Dancing. They also realized that through the competition many younger generations are able to learn about their roots as well as take part of the competition and involve themselves with the bigger community.

The Lion Dance community of 2016 comprises many unique individuals from a diverse array of backgrounds. Our community helps unite local Lion Dance organizations and teams, and replaces former rivalries with a friendly competitive spirit. It also provides the local youth with not just the fundamentals of Lion Dancing, but also the drive for self-improvement and self-empowerment, and a safe space for these youths to grow. This hasn't gone unnoticed by SEAC and many local businesses: they too have witnessed firsthand how the New England Annual Lion Dance Competition brings people together, sharing not just their skills and passion, but the collective efforts of preserving and spreading awareness about the art of Lion Dancing as well as the Asian Culture.

With the help of our generous sponsors these last five years, we've worked hard to overcome the obstacles that stopped us from uniting the Lion Dance community on a single stage each year. However, as the competition and the community grow and expand, we are facing fresh new challenges. This year two non-profit organizations, SEAC and the the Chinatown Main Street of Boston are collaborating to bring the New England National Lion Dance Competition to Chinatown, Boston. The competition includes teams from all over New England, including local teams from Worcester, New York and Boston. In order to carry on our mission and host the best competition we possibly can, we need your help. We are grateful to those of you who have been following, supporting, and taking part in the competition in the past and we want to thank in advance those who will be joining us on this amazing journey. Because the staff of the competition consists solely of volunteers, we'll be able to put100% of your donation towards the planning and organization of this competition, and many more to come. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated by every member of the community!

Thank you again, and we hope to see you all at this year’s New England National Lion Dance Competition.
