Homeless at Christmas

If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all. With the snowball rolling downhill at a fast pace, we now find ourselves homeless at Christmas.
A double charge by our cable company left us short on rent. Cable company said they couldn't refund since it was autopaid. Said we had to go through the bank, which takes 10-14 business days. So, we paid half the rent with an explanation and promise to pay on or before Dec 11.
On Friday morning, Dec 6, the apartment office told us verbally, the rent had to be paid in full by 6:00pm on Monday the 9th or it would go to eviction. That evening, they put the eviction notice on the door saying we had to be out Monday, Dec 9.
That was 2 days before we would have the money for them. The amount still due being $230. But, they wouldn't work with us for 2 days for $230.
We spoke with a local attorney about eviction and were told that they would take the money any way they could get it, but, would probably still evict us because they don't have to have a reason to do so.
So, rather than give them the money we had in hopes of staying...just to have them knock on our door Monday morning and order us out with the clothes on our backs:
We took the money we could scrape together, rented the smallest storage building we could, loaded all our personal stuff into trash bags and totes that we emptied all our holiday stuff out of, and took everything to storage. Three trips in our small car. Then, we took the money that was left and rented the cheapest motel room we could for a week. We are covered here until Monday morning at 11;00 a.m. Then, we have to pay again or check out.
So, here we are. No money for rent and deposits on a new place to call home. Any help is appreciated. We would love to have our own place before Christmas. Thank you.
