Please help our Dad, who has dementia.

My Dad Mike who I grew up with in my life, has battled various life-threatening illnesses his entire life. When I was a teenager, he suffered from liver issues, had a brain tumor/brain surgery, and almost died. A handful of years later, he underwent open heart surgery. Years later, he beat tongue and throat cancer and managed to catch it in time that it didn’t spread anywhere else for now.

He is suffering from muscle and joint pain and is in dire need of a knee replacement, causing him so much pain he can hardly walk. On top of all this, he was diagnosed with dementia just last year. He has since been dealing with horrendous seizures and strokes that have put him in the hospital all year. 

We are seeing the stress of all of this and dementia affect his mental state and well-being enormously.

Dad has fought constantly to stay alive over the years and to stay healthy. When I was a teen, they told us he had a handful of years to live, yet now, at 70 years old. He is here with us and still alive. But the past year has not been kind to him. He’s currently dealing with chronic and highly debilitating pain. He needs a knee replacement, and doctors and hospitals have been dragging him along, keeping him on a waitlist for the past year. At this point, he can no longer walk and that caused him to lose his job. That lack of income coming in has destroyed his financial stability. He cannot afford the essential cost of living anymore. They have repossessed his car, and now, his apartment complex is throwing him out of his apartment.

The programs meant to help him have long waiting lists, and he needs help NOW. My sister and I are all he has. He has no other family, and we cannot support him in the way he needs financially. We are working towards finding housing for him. But right now, he needs money to survive and to help him stabilize his life until he can get his knee replaced and go back to work.

My Dad has never asked for anything in his 70 years of life. He helps people, and now he needs help. He has dealt with way too many blows back to back. If you can give anything to help him, it would mean so much to him and us. We don’t know what to do anymore. So we are asking for your help. Thank you. ♥️
