On May 22, at just 2 pounds 9ounces, Calvin James suprised his mommy, daddy and 20-month-old sister, by moving up his birth date by nine weeks, and this was not the first surprise he would throw at us.

Immediately after his birth, Calvin's doctors realized he was infected with a virus that though common in adults, is rare,extremely dangerous and sometimes deadly to a devoloping baby.

To fight the virus Calvin is being given a variation of a chemo drug. He will have months of treatment in the hospital NICU, and will have years of outpatient treatment once he is finally allowed to go home. 

Calvin has already shown us what a little fighter he is. He continues to surprise the doctors and touch all of our hearts, but we know he has a long road ahead.

We know his mom and dad will supply him with every ounce of love humanly possible, but they are already overwhelmed by the medical bills coming in, and a significant amount of the costs associated with baby Calvins treatment are not covered by insurance.

Additionally, Rachael (who is a Firefighter) will be unable to return to work until Calvin is much farther along in his recovery.
