National Down Syndrome Policy Group Fundraiser

The National Down Syndrome Policy Group (NDSPG) supports people with Down syndrome to have a say in the formation of policy matters that impact their lives, campaigning for equal access, opportunities and provision to ensure equality and better outcomes at all stages of life.

The group has the support of individuals, self-advocates, charities, and DS organisations: all with the common aim of ensuring that the voices of people with Down syndrome is heard in society and reflected in government policy.

We also provide the secretariat to the All-Parliamentary Group on Down Syndrome (APPGDS).

 

The NDSPG considers five key areas of policy and provision:

 

Our campaigning led successfully to the introduction of the Down Syndrome Act on the 28th April 2022! Let us reflect on the magnitude of this, a world first piece of legislation that will put the needs of people with Down syndrome at the forefront of policy and services in England, and will serve as an example to other countries, showing that if you include people with Down syndrome and you have ambition and determination, you can positively change the outcomes for people with Down syndrome, forever!

 

We are now fully engaged with several government departments to ensure that the guidance and strategy flowing from the Act, is both meaningful and relevant for all people with Down syndrome.

This funding will allow NDSPG to pay for research, buy in consulting expertise and support the administration of the group and the All-Parliamentary Group on Down Syndrome. A primary focus for all the consultation work will be to provide employment opportunities for people with Down syndrome to lead in all areas - no longer spectators in their destiny, but empowered to be the voice of change!

The Founding Officers have provided and will continue to provide their time and expertise free of charge to the National Down Syndrome Policy Group.
