Nate Shiel-Our Marine Needs Support

On Monday, August 3rd, Nate and Peri Shiel were involved in a horrific car accident in Oceanside, CA.

Brian and Patty, Nate's parents, received that late night phone call that every parent dreads while in Canada visiting family with their two younger sons, Caleb and Matt. Quickly, they called for prayer reinforcements as they flew down to California to be with Nate and Peri leaving Caleb and Matt with family in Canada.
On Monday, Nate had a craniectomy to help reduce the pressure on his brain from the swelling. As a result of the many prayers and God's strength, Nate was able to endure a long 9 hour surgery on Thursday, to repair his left femur, right patella, left wrist and right ulna. Nate remains under heavy sedation, but doctors are beginning the process to reduce his sedation. Currently, the prayer focus has been on Nate's brain function. As he comes out of sedation, they are monitoring his brain response to pain and stimulation. God continues to be faithful as today Nate squeezed Patty's hand while she and Brian were singing praise music in his room!
As a community we would love to support Peri and the Shiel family as their lives have been turned upside down. While the Marines have come along side and are taking care of many of their current expenses, which they are extremely thankful for, there are immediate expenses that will not be taken care of such as: return flights for Caleb and Matt back to Pennsylvania and transporting the Shiel car from Canada. Future needs may include: medical, housing, food and transportation expenses as Nate continues on his road to recovery.
Primarily, let us offer our prayer support to Nate, Peri and the Shiel family and also financially to take some burden off of them so they can focus their energy on Nate's recovery. We thank God for His many provisions and His healing hand over both Peri and Nate.

MARINE, WIFE INJURED in 3-CAR CRASH IN OCEANSIDE

A Camp Pendleton Marine and his wife were among 5 people injured in a 3 vehicle crash on Oceanside Blvd, friends told NBC 7 Tuesday.
Marine Nate Shiel and his wife Peri were rushed to Scripps La Jolla Hospital Monday evening, where Nate is still in critical condition.
Peri is conscious and seems to be improving, according to her classmates who have been at the hospital all day.
"She knows that (Nate is) not awake yet, and she knows what's going on, and she's just like devastated," said friend JJ Santiago.
Oceanside police said Nate was driving a Mazda east on Oceanside Blvd when a driver in a Chevy Impala traveling west veered into the median and hit the Mazda head-on.
A third vehicle, traveling behind the Mazda, was also struck by the Impala. That driver was taken to Palomar Medical Center for a cut to her face and chest pain.
The Impala's driver, who police say caused the crash, has been identified as Eric Haulcy. He too is in critical condition at Scripps La Jolla.
In the meantime, friends of Peri and Nate said they're staying hopeful.
"I know she doesn't fully remember like what happeneded, so just waking up to knowing her husband isn't doing good is....I can only imagine how horrible that is," said Santiago.
She said the couple is from the East Coast, so their family is on their way to San Diego County.
Peri is enrolled at Paul Mitchell Beauty School in Temecula while Nate is stationed at Camp Pendleton, according to Santiago.
"He's just awesome," she said. "He's just a really, really good guy and he serves our country and he didn't deserve this at all."
Oceanside police are still investigating if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, though they say Haulcy smelled of alcohol when he was in the operating room.
