Natchez Trace Bridge Barrier Coal.

Since 2000, there have been at least 38 suicides at the Natchez Trace Bridge in Franklin, TN. Thirteen of those suicides took place between 2015-2018, with 5 in 2017 alone (source: National Park Service).  The dangerously low 32-inch railing on the 155-foot bridge overpass must be raised or outfitted with a suicide prevention barrier of some kind.

With this goal in mind, the Natchez Trace Bridge Barrier Coalition was formed by two survivors of suicide loss at the bridge. Trish Merelo lost her 17-year-old son John, and Sarah Elmer lost her 25-year-old sister Danielle. Together, we’re asking for support in paying for travel expenses for meetings with congressional representatives, the National Park Service, printing and materials, as well as other expenditures that may arise.

We're making progress, and are being heard by those in positions integral to our success.

Individually, and as a society, we're held responsible for something when we know how to do what we know needs to be done. Thank you for supporting us and this important cause.
