Support Kathy's Journey to Recovery

Hello, my name is Amanda. My mom, Kathy, is currently in the hospital. She has been here for 3 weeks now and will be moving to rehab, hopefully tomorrow, to learn how to function a little with one leg. On April 1st, she had her right leg amputated below the knee due to a blood clot in her right ankle area, which had completely cut off blood flow, causing the tissues in her foot to start dying. She is also struggling with a pneumonia relapse. Since Christmas, she has struggled with bronchitis along with broken ribs from coughing and blacking out and took a hard fall. We started to get her better from that, and then she developed pneumonia and spent a while in the hospital. We thought she was doing better, and she tried to go back to work when she started having the pain from her right leg and foot. Within 3 days, her foot was purple, and I took her back to the hospital, which led to her leg being amputated. She was in the ICU for 2 weeks, has had 4 procedures, they had to intubate her twice, as well as perform CPR after the first intubation was removed due to her coding from not being able to breathe. That’s when she got diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia again.

She is trying to heal from the broken ribs from compressions, get over the pneumonia, and also let her incision from amputation heal, all while having to learn to use one leg for now until we can eventually get her into a prosthetic.

Unfortunately, she has no more PTO. We have no clue if she will be able to return to work, and if that is possible, it will be months, maybe a year. She still has bills and medical expenses to cover.
