Wheelchair Accessible Van for Lindsey

My name is Lindsey, and I could really use your help!

I was born premature at 26 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. 11.5 oz., and with cerebral palsy. My mom calls me her “miracle child,” and she has been by my side through everything. I am 30 years old and in a wheelchair. Although we have much joy in our lives, things have become increasingly difficult for me and my mom, and they took a turn for the worse when our old van finally broke down. Without our van we lose our freedom, which is why I’m hoping you might be willing to help us purchase a replacement.

Please know that I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t have to. Our old van (2004) is beyond repair. The ramp and door no longer function, the suspension is shot, the engine has oil leak, the back hatch door is broken, the A/C and heat don’t work, and pieces of the van are actually falling off. It was very difficult and dangerous for my mom to load/lift me into the van on the side without the ramp, praying she did not drop me or hurt her back. Meanwhile, we are working hard just to make ends meet, but it’s far more challenging without reliable transportation. I have many doctor appointments to attend, I love helping my mom at the grocery store, and I truly enjoy just going out, interacting with people, and doing fun things! Today I’m nearly confined to my home, and I miss these trips.

If you can help in any way, we would be so grateful. Having a new van would last me a long time, and would help my (and my mom’s) quality of life tremendously. But accessible vans are costly, and we can’t do it without help.
