vision care

Hello, my name is Evonne Jefferson-Travers. I am in need of assistance. I currently live with my mother as I had been caring for her after a stroke. I worked full time but helped with bills, etc., and made sure to keep an eye on my mom and help her with whatever she needed.

Two years ago, I suffered a series of strokes that left me disabled. I am impacted in several areas, including walking, speech, vision . I was a full-time contractor when I was employed so I didn't have access to health insurance. My medical bills since the strokes, were, and continue to be, very high. The cost of those bills has depleted both my retirement and my savings accounts.

I am relying on SSA to meet my current responsibilities and haven't managed to do that very well. I am covered under the Affordable Care Act now, so any health issues going forward, can be dealt with. I take taxies or get rides to medical appointments because I can no longer drive. My mom and I continue to help and support each other as best we can.

My vision, since the stroke, has continued to deteriorate and I'm now in need of eye surgery (both eyes). The procedure is not covered under my current medical insurance and I cannot afford it on my SSA income.

I am very independent and I'd like to be able to work again and to care for my mother as I did before. I'm asking for help with this medical need so that I can continue to not only take care of my own needs, but continue to help my mother once I am back on my feet.
