Amy Duarte Medical Fund

For those of you who know Amy, we know her as a kind, generous, caring friend, daughter, co-worker, aunt, sister, or niece.  Amy is a special needs teacher who is admired and loved by her students & co-workers.

Amy's battle with leukemia started at the age of 10 when she was first diagnosed.  After being in remission for 18 months, she relapsed.  A second round of chemo was needed in order for any chance of a cure, in addition to total body radiation, and a bone marrow transplant from her sister.  For the next 15 years Amy did very well, and seemed healthy with minimal complications. It was in 2009 that the effects of the radiation took effect.  Since then, she has had two meningiomas removed from her brain, three surgeries to remove thyroid cancer, and a double mastectomy for breast cancer  found in 2012, for which she is still on treatment for.  Amy has had her gall bladder removed, and almost lost her leg due to complications from chemo. In addition,  she has had two eye surgeries from the effects  of radioactive iodine. This doesn't even begin to include the surgeries for reconstruction, blood draws, MRI's, CT scans, ultrasounds and continuous biopsies.

To look at this beautiful young woman, you would never know what Amy has been through nor realize the challenges Amy has and continues to encounter in life.
Trips and follow-ups to the hospital are numerous, not to mention insurance co-payments, prescriptions, deductibles, etc., etc.  Amy has a remarkable attitude and has always been most independent and yet, how much can one person endure.

So many have and continue to ask what they can do to help support Amy.  Anyone wanting to help Amy with her on-going medical expenses is invited to do so. Amy is a "survivor".  Your continued prayers for Amy's good health are so greatly appreciated.
