Power Up for Matthew Williams

Matthew  is an avid team member of The Sting, the local charter division team of the United States Power Soccer Association.  Matthew has been an active participant for the past 2 seasons and has been developing and growing his skill of and love for the sport all while in a generously donated piece of equipment.  As he’s grown and become more competitive, even as one of the youngest members on the team, he‘s outgrown his existing Power Chair and is ready for the next level up, a Strike Force Chair!!!  The cost of a new chair is around $8000.  This includes a custom fitting specific for Matthews needs and his own unique special requirements. 

Matthew has been living with SMA, an incurable and progressive disease, for 6 years now. He is spunky, smart, a typical boy, full of life, and stronger than anyone I know. Over the past 2 years, we have been fighting to receive the miracle medicine Spinraza. It is supposed to stop the natural disease progression and improve his quality of life and strength. We are excited to see where this next year takes us, and hoping that hospitals in Georgia  will begin to treat all patients living with SMA.

Approximately every 7 hours someone is born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. 

It is the #1 genetic killer of infants.

1 in 4 people are carriers of the gene mutation that causes this disease.
