Nicaragua-Bound To Help The Kids!

Hello! My name is Ana Sophia, and I am raising funds to send me on a service trip to Nicaragua this coming February of 2018!
More detailed information can be found in my video, but here is the gist of the project.
As Americans, we lead a very privileged life, and although I hear about the struggles of people all over the world, all I really know is the comfort of my own home. Belonging to my school’s global citizenship club provides me with the opportunity of expanding my horizons and helping others in need, by volunteering in Nicaragua.
We will be working with the organization Free The Children/Me to We, on a service project to benefit a local community around Managua, Nicaragua. Since their specific needs are constantly changing, I do not know yet what the exact project will be; however, past projects have included clean water and sanitation, health/educational facilities, and agricultural and food security.
As soon as I heard about this project, I was drawn to it because of my roots. My mom is from Colombia, so I have grown up speaking Spanish and being strongly influenced by that culture. This makes the service project, being in Nicaragua, that much more personal for me because the two countries share a common language and heritage. I hope to be able to connect with the people and genuinely make a difference in their lives. In addition, I am confident that this experience will help me grow as a person and become a better global neighbor.
