Send Cara's play to Edinburgh!

Hello! My name is Cara Corrigan, and I'm an actress/writer at school for musical theatre at the University of the Arts.

I have been working writing a play for the past 6 months and pitched the show to many venues at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for this summer.  I was the victim of rape last summer in Europe, and the play explores that experience and the friendships and supports that were present throughout it.  My hope is that it will bring more awareness to this global issue and hopefully inspire other survivors and give them hope and show them they are not alone. I think that now is an incredibly good and important time to do this play with the “me, too” movement going on; many people now are aware that sexual misconduct is an issue, and with my play, I hope to give the audience a first hand experience of the effect it has on a person to make it seem like even more of a real issue as opposed to just a statistic that people read. It is important to me to perform this piece at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival because it’s the largest art festival in the world, and since sexual assault is a global issue, it can reach the wide variety of audiences that it needs to. Several sexual assault survivors have read my play, and they have all said it is a genuine and inspiring story that makes them feel hopeful and supported, and I can’t wait to share that on a larger scale. In the promotional flyers and posters, we will also be listing several different sexual assault help lines in many different countries in case someone sees the play and decides they want help or want to talk to someone.

I will be raising money for airfare to go to Scotland for two months to perform and rehearse the show, housing, producing the show, renting the venue that we’ve been given, and paying for the printing of promotional materials like posters and flyers with the show info and the resources for sexual assault help and information.

This is something I'm immensely passionate about, and every little bit helps!

Thank you so much for reading!

"Cara, a college student from America, is having the time of her life traveling overseas in Europe for the summer. She meets Paul, a fellow actor and Scottish native, in Edinburgh. One date quickly turns into days of exploring Scotland. Cara and Paul part ways as Cara continues her trip around Europe, but their lives are forever changed as a tragic twist of events reunites the two. Making its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe, Puffin Island is an extraordinary true story of risk, adventure, love, and dealing with the devastation of sexual assault."
