Beschermde donatie
My name is Liam Barker. In June 2024 amidst the ongoing riots in Kanaky (New Caledonia), I was admitted into hospital in Noumea for 10 days as I awaited evacuation. My travel insurance refused to cover it because of a brief consultation I had two years prior which resulted in no diagnoses or treatment, my then-employers (Max Planck Institute) offered no support, and have been uncontactable on financial support since returning to the U.K. The NHS/NHS Global also will not cover it. The French government bumped me from my initial evacuation flight, despite being assured by the UK and NZ embassies that I was top priority, and had to pay for my subsequent evacuation flights myself.
My bill is £3,500 and due in full on October 1st 2024. All the money raised will go towards this bill, and any leftover will be donated to Indigenous activists in Kanaky. This has been an incredibly stressful and depressing experience, I want to thank any donors in advance for your generosity, any donation however small will be much appreciated. I would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at the CHS Albert Bousquet hospital for looking after and supporting me in my time of crisis, and for doing incredible work despite the civil unrest.
