Protest After Care Fund

About the Effort: The Protest After Care fund is a mutual aid designed to provide financial relief to Black protestors amidst recent direct actions across the country. Black organizers and activists across the country have sacrificed their time and safety for the purposes of Black liberation even to the extent of exposing themselves to COVID-19 for the betterment of the collective. The funds are designed to assist with any medical expenses or hardships related to protest participation including but not limited to:

Necessities: food/groceries, transportation, child care
Job Support: loss of wages, or job termination
Medical expenses: physical injuries following political participation and/or COVID-19 testing or other expenses
*Bail and Legal: posting bail and or bond as a direct result of protesting, retain legal support or representation 
*NOTE: We encourage people to plug into their local or state bail funds. Only under extenuating circumstances will applications for bail be approved.


Receiving Funds: To receive funds you must be a Black person who recently (May 25,2020 and beyond) participated or significantly contributed to the demand for Black lives and defunding of the police. Funds will be disseminated through a short application process and review by a small committee. Should your request total exceed $250, please be prepared for additional follow up as we will contact you for more information concerning your needs. Requests can be made up to $1000 annually.

--The Protest After Care fund was created by a small group of organizers from Maryland, New York and Ohio dedicated to social justice, Black liberation and the total abolishment of the police and the use of jails and or prisons.
