Royal Wootton Bassett COVID-19 Mutual Support Group, with the backing of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, is organising this fundraising appeal to raise funds for its ongoing work.

Royal Wootton Bassett COVID-19 Mutual Aid was formed on 14th March 2020 by volunteers from the community of Royal Wootton Bassett in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We offer aid to those self-isolating by fetching shopping, offering essentials, picking up prescriptions and making friendly phone calls to those in need. We particularly wanted to help those who suddenly found themselves in difficult situations due to COVID-19 and who had slipped through the cracks in formal aid work. We pair people needing help with a local volunteer, with the aim of building community, creating a sustainable aid network and hopefully lifelong friendships!

By helping people stay in their homes, we hope to keep them safe, keep the community safe, and reduce strain on our wonderful NHS.

The response of the community has been amazing. We have over 350 incredible local volunteers; we have had over 100 boxes of food donated; we have had goods and help offered by many different local companies/shops. Imagine Cruising, for example, run our phone lines, The Royal Wootton Bassett Carnival team are helping make food boxes and we have had a generous donation by the Rotary Club. We work alongside the Wiltshire Well-being Hub and are now officially supported by the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council. We have worked with the local pharmacies and have delivered between 150-200 prescriptions a week!

All of this is amazing, and we deeply appreciate all the help, but much of the funding and help is provided for very specific purposes, and whilst demand has started to fall - and we hope it will continue in this direction - we are still seeing a need for food boxes each week.  Whilst we are very grateful for the continued donations of food, we've been told that many local people want to donate money. This will help us to continue to support as many people as possible in Bassett, especially as it looks like this virus may be around for some time.

We've already been able to support many people in the town but if you want to see this work continue we would hugely appreciate your donations.

All donations will go to a bank account controlled by Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council and distributed to RWB COVID-19 Mutual Aid accordingly. None of the volunteers, the group committee, or Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council make profit from this fundraising. All proceeds go directly to supporting vulnerable members of the community.  Any funds remaining at the end of the current crisis will be passed to other groups helping vulnerable people in our community.

Thank for you all your support!
