Mutual Aid for Terminated MEC Employees
BACKGROUND
On October 8, 2020, dozens of Mountain Equipment Co-op employees were terminated as part of the transition to the co-ops new life as a private corporation after the sale to Kingswood Capital Management. As employees are not secured creditors under CCAA, they have not received severance. For more information, please see this story from News 1130.
APPLICATIONS
To apply for aid, please fill out this form.
ACCOUNTABILITY
I will contact applicants and ask that they send in proof of employment and termination. Allocation of funds will be based on the number of applicants and distributed according to number of years of service. Payments will be reported on this page - to protect the privacy of recipients, their names will not be shared.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZER
I was a proud employee of MEC from 2015-2020 in various roles in the Service Centre, Merchandising, Logistics, and Supply Chain. I resigned last week as I'm leaving to pursue a new career in a different sector. I am profoundly upset by the sale and my heart aches for my former colleagues. They are some of the kindest, smartest, most resourceful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. While I don't expect to raise the amount owed to them (collectively, in the hundreds of thousands of dollars), I hope to provide at least a bit of relief.
THANK YOU
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. Please share widely.
