Financial Solidarity for LGBTQ & BIPOC in Syracuse

Donation protected
It's the season of giving! While news of coming vaccines inspires hope, there are still so many people, both essential workers and those facing joblessness, currently struggling through this pandemic. Many people are having difficulty keeping up with rent, groceries, heat, electricity, and other expenses. They need help right now and can't keep waiting on a second stimulus check.

In any natural and economic disaster, historically marginalized people are usually hit the hardest. This fundraiser will prioritize Black and Indigenous people of color and those in the LGBTQIA community living in and around Syracuse New York.

How will the funds get out into the community?
I've created a spreadsheet that will allow individuals in need to fill out their Venmo, CashApp, or Paypal usernames, how much they'll need to get by, and how much they've received. At the top of the spreadsheet, I'll report how much of the $5,000 has been paid out as well as the total amount raised so far. I'll also post updates and screenshots of the money going from my Venmo / PayPal / CashApp account to the person who requested the funds.

I have the link to the spreadsheet copy-pasted below. If you are a person of color living in Syracuse and/or in the Syracuse LGBTQIA community who needs financial help, please click the link and fill out the information. If you know someone in these communities who are struggling financially please share this link with them:

I'm starting out with a small goal of $5,000 since only my partner and I are running this fundraiser. I'm hoping this spreadsheet will serve as a good community resource long after this fundraiser is closed, and folks will continue to donate to individuals directly from there even after the $5,000 has been raised and distributed.

How will these funds be fairly distributed?
Everyone's situation is different and folks will request different amounts of money. I will do my best to be as equitable as possible in splitting up the $5,000. Because I'm going to be making payouts to folks as the funds come in, and I won't know how many people will end up making requests during this fundraiser, I'm going to cap the payout to $300 dollars max per individual to stretch it out and help as many people as possible.

What if there are leftover funds?
In the unlikely event that there are leftover funds and everyone who made requests on the spreadsheet has been paid out, they will be split up among community organizations local to Syracuse. I'll make sure to post updates frequently and keep the spreadsheet up to date to be as transparent as possible! I'll be shutting down the GoFundMe once we hit $5,000, but again, the spreadsheet will be open to the community and anyone who wants to directly donate to individuals who put their information on the sheet will be able to do so.

Even if we can get just a few hundred dollars out to people in need, this fundraiser will be a success. Please consider making a donation and sharing! No amount is too small and every share helps. Thanks again & happy holidays! - Maria
