B.A.M is a community organization based in Muskegon Michigan,founded by activists dedicated to uplifting,empowering, and loving Black and Brown communities. B.A.M. stands for By Any Means Necessary, we will go the distance to make a change in our communities. We believe that we can empower our community through education, unity, collective economics, community service, respect for the environment, & international aid & solidarity.
Our organization has taken the time to assess the needs of the community. Through many interviews with children, parents, and local community activists, after countless discussions with lawyers, local educators, and even law enforcement, the need for a community center was ubiquitous.
There is absolutely nothing in Muskegon Heights for the youth to participate in. This leads to high rates of juvenile crime and violence, there is a lack of constructive opportunities and activities which leads to low level education and high drop out rates. A community center in Muskegon Heights would resolve these issues as well as promote exercise in minority communities, boost local economy, keep adolescents safe, & boost property value. The objectives of this community center are as follows
Immediate Objectives
To offer constructive opportunities and activities to hundreds of children
To bring in programs and charities from around world
To give the children positive role models from both domestic and international backgrounds
To begin entrepreneurial projects and programs that can bring financial support to the children and their families
To provide a safe place for children to go after school while parents are working
To offer more programs and opportunities that provide life skills, home skills, financial literacy, authentic culture history, hands on experience, agriculture,entrepreneurship, skilled craft/trade & arts to the youth of Muskegon county
Long-term objectives
To increase the literacy and education level of the children in the area
To reduce the amount of crime in the community
To lessen the divide between white and black races in Muskegon
To raise the family income levels of the families in the area
To increase youth appreciation and understanding of the arts, culture, and history
. Recreation and leisure,like culture and art, plays a very significant role in communities. They have been proven to be beneficial by promoting the development of inclusive communities, improving overall health and well being of individuals, provides a meeting space for the city outside of town halls and churches, and contributing to the empowerment of individuals. It is NECESSARY that this community center is built for the good and advancement of our community. This would be taking a step in a positive direction.
