About Me and MuralsforGood.org
During the past few years, I have been volunteering my time helping nonprofit organizations through PokerforGood.org. Collectively, we raised over 700k benefiting Books for Kids, Trey Whitfield School, Center for Educational Innovation, Angle Compass, MS Hope for a Cure, Children Brain Tumor Foundation, StopAAPIHate.org, and Chinese for Affirmative Action.
I am now launching a nonprofit project called MuralsforGood whose mission is to raise awareness about racist incidents and celebrate the rich ethnic diversity of the United States. Our aim is to uplift high-density neighborhoods through art that not only beautifies and vitalizes local businesses, but also spreads awareness about the varied cultures and histories that make up the United States. We are a grassroots nonprofit supported by volunteers, artists, and sponsors. And our team is growing!
Current NYC - AAPI Project
Our first mural project will be to raise awareness about hate incidents against Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) while celebrating AAPI cultures and histories. We are currently working with celebrated artists to create five murals in NYC by the end of 2021.
Why AAPI Communities
AAPI communities have faced a surge of hate crimes during COVID-19. Alarming stories include Mr. Yao Pan Ma brutally attacked while collecting cans in East Harlem, 65 years old Phlippino women kicked and stomped repeatedly near Times Square while 2 doormen watched on, and the Atlanta Asian Spa shootings where 6 of the 8 victims were female Asian Americans.
How will your donations be used?
We are looking to start our first mural as soon as May 2021. Your donated funds will go directly toward the artists, art equipment supplies, and securing mural locations. Any funds remaining will be saved for future mural projects!
To show my commitment and confidence in MuralsforGood, I am personally pledging 100% of my April poker winnings for this project (approximately $5,000 so far). I am grateful for any support you can give! Please repost and share the link!
