Good evening donors,
The victim/family originally intended to be the recipients of this fund, Mrs.Barbara’s friends, have declined the donations. They’re grateful for the generosity but feel the financial impact of this horrific act is something they can endure yet the other victim’s families no longer have their loved ones and are therefore more deserving. A demonstration of selflessness that we could all learn from.
GIven this update,anyone who wishes to leave their donation should know that the money will be transfered into the main Marjory Stoneman Douglas Fund.

I’d like to update this story as it’s been brought to my attention that rumors have surfaced claiming this fund to be fraudulent.
My son is a 14 year old freshman at Archbishop McCarthy School. On countless occasions he’s conveyed to me how much he appreciates the love and kindness Mrs. Barbara, a lunch lady at the school, so generously gives the students she interacts with daily.
The day after the tragedy, my son was heartbroken to learn this horrific masacre had impacted Mrs. Barbara closely. In tears she recounted to my son and other students that a close family friend’s son was hospitalized with a gun shot wound. She also informed them that the injured student’s mother is pregnant.Mr. Luongo, his faith teacher whom he also deeply admires, requested prayers for Mrs. Barbara’s family and others affected by this tragedy.
My son and his friend felt compelled to help and came up with the idea to start this fund on their own to present it to Mrs. Barbara as an expression of their empathy towards her and trusting she’d administer the funds to wherever the family’s greatest needs required it.
They attached a Maverick logo to page failing to understand as most 14 year olds would that without the school’s consent to do so, the logo was an infringement.
I have extended my telephone number to Mr. Jean via his daughter and am awaiting his call to clarify the situation. I also spoke with Mrs. Barbara this afternoon to share my contact information and expressed my desire to meet her in the hospital to pray over the family friend and assist in any way that I or my family could.
I understand we live in very dark times where people take advantage of others during times of tragedy but I assure you this is not the case. These two 14 year old boys have more heart than most grown men.
I’ve taught my children that Christianity is a verb and a way of life, I couldn’t be prouder that my son Christian Rodriguez for embodying that philosophy and living his faith.
I’ve asked him to close the fund at half his goal due to the scrutiny. Will update with victim’s family name as soon as I reach Mrs. Barbara.

This page was created by students who have come together for the fund of a very important person. We are from Florida and recently experienced a tragedy in our community. This go fund me page is dedicated to Ms.Barbra (aka as the happiest lunch lady). Ms. Barbra is such an influential person, as every day she wakes up with nothing but a smile on her face. Her positive and loving energy is contagious to everyone regardless of how their day is going. Recently, our community was impacted by the Margery Stoneman Douglass Highschool shooting, where 17 individuals were killed and 14 Highschool students were hospitalized with life threatening wounds. Unfortunately, her family-friend was impacted by this shooting, and were lucky to have their Highschool student alive, however he is in critical condition with 2 gunshot wounds. As his family is struggling to pay for medical bills, as a student body we feel the need to pitch in and donate as much as we can to bring financial stability to their family. Our prayers go out to the other victims of the shooting and their families. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Our plan is to use these funds to help the victims family for medical bills and financial support, not for our own use. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
