Unexpected Moving Expenses for the Martins
Donation protected
For nearly a decade, Kate Christensen-Martin and Colby Martin have been doing work very few pastors have been willing to take on – providing a safe, affirming, and fiercely celebratory community for church trauma survivors to heal. Both online and in person at Sojourn Grace Collective in San Diego, they’ve been the curators and protectors of home for hundreds of exvangelicals, queer folk, burnt out church leaders and purity culture refugees, many of whom were certain they’d never feel at home in a church again.
It’s our turn to protect home for them.
Unexpectedly, at the beginning of a brand new school year for their four kids and the beginning of the end of two years of pandemic disruption, Kate and Colby must leave the home they love and find a new place for their family. During the holidays. In a buyer-hostile and saturated San Diego market where the cost of living is off-the-charts high.
Finding home for six humans, three animals, and about six hundred plants isn’t easy under the best possible circumstances, and these circumstances are far from the best. While we can’t conjure the perfect home for them up from the desert soil, nor make it any easier to leave the house that has been a much-beloved respite for them for the last several years, we CAN offset the unforeseen moving expenses, help them cover the astronomical deposits and fees that landlords are charging with homes so scarce, and heck, maybe even save Christmas.
These folks have protected home for so many for SO long. It’s our turn now. Thanks so much for giving what you can – every little bit helps!
