Moving Sucks, and we're broke

Hey! I'm Keffy, and I'm a science fiction writer, editor, and graduate student. Among... other things. The fine gentleman with the red hair in the picture is my boyfriend Alex, who just moved up to New York with me after Many Years of a long distance relationship.

That's all great, but unfortunately, he's still looking for a job in New York. If you've ever moved from a low cost of living area to one that is considerably higher, you know that being able to float during the job search is tough. I initially planned to be able to cover his rent during that time but a series of crap ate all that saved money.

(The Sob Story: Paying roommates moved out suddenly in March and May, someone who moved in "for a couple weeks" because they didn't have anywhere to go ended up staying for 4 months and not paying anything toward their portion of the rent and utilities. Then the landlord sold the house, and I had to move. On top of that, the landlord at the old house just decided to keep our deposit, with no reason given. Yes, I know that's illegal. We didn't want to get into any fights over it considering we needed a good referral to get a place. Ever looked for a rental you can afford on a grad student stipend on Long Island if you have dogs? Yeah. Anyway.)

Basically, I got dicked out of the $3000 or so that was going to be used to move Alex up here, and then I had to move myself to another place. Right now the entire cost of moving one person across the country is on various credit cards, and we're trying to make sure we still make the rent this month and next.

If you feel like dropping a few bucks in the bucket, that'd be greatly appreciated. The money's going to go toward the $1600/mo we owe together on the rent, paying down some of the debt incurred from the two moves, and make it possible for me to keep my magazine, GlitterShip, open. (We'll be able to make the payment on Sept 1, but then we're going to be running on fumes for the rest of the month.)

I'm super grateful for anyone who shares or sends some cash, but if you don't have anything? I totally get it. We're all running on empty right now. Hang in there, read some fiction at www.glittership.com, and pet a dog if you can.
