Motorcycle stunt across the Mersey for child protection laws
Donation protected
UPDATE - The target was not reached so will be cancelling the stunt (possibly trying again next year) - All donations will be refunded by gofundme shortly.
Hi, I'm John Taylor, former motorcycle stuntman from Liverpool, and I'm embarking on a daring world record challenge to ride an amphibious motorbike across the River Mersey, this is all to raise awareness for a cause that urgently needs public attention: mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse in the UK. The stunt is planned to take place end of November this year (2024), exact day TBC.
90% of the world's population is protected by mandatory reporting laws, which mean any suspects must be reported to the police, but the UK still has the same laws it did 75 years ago. This gap means many more additional children are subjected to sexual abuse while the government refuses to act. This is in settings across the board, from nurseries and schools to care homes and sports clubs.
A proposed law was recently dropped by the last government, but a private members bill demanding this law to be put in has been put through the house of Lords by Tanni Grey-Thompson. However without any public awareness the government are going to continue kicking the law down the road leaving our children more open to sexual abuse every day. By supporting this cause we can bring more awareness and pressure on the government to finally do something about it.
My goal is to bring this issue into the spotlight and make people aware of the critical need for change. Most people in the UK don't realise that we lack these vital protections. By taking on this challenge, I hope to inspire you to join me in calling for mandatory reporting laws that will protect our children from harm. Your support will help spread the word, raise awareness, and bring us closer to ensuring that every child in the UK is safeguarded against abuse.
The motorcycle stunt across the river Mersey will be the first of it's kind in the UK and a world record for riding an amphibious motorcycle across the river. It will start in Birkenhead and end in Liverpool.
Jaime Bonet, pioneer of the modern amphibious motorcycle, will be helping engineer the motorcycle and prepare it for the crossing.
Date is to be confirmed but will be approx end of November this year. It will be done by using a motor-cross motorcycle with paddle and ski modifications.
Donations will be used to complete the stunt and awareness drive, including parts, labour and securing safety measures for the stunt. Any leftover funds will be given to Faye Maxted OBE at the Survivors Trust charity group, specialising in helping survivors of child abuse in the UK.
Please donate and share this campaign to help us push for change. Together, we can protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
Thank you for your support!
