Motor Yacht CLASSIQUE Rescue

Donation protected
CLASSIQUE is a 42-ft classic wooden motor yacht built in 1929 by Stephens Brothers in Stockton, CA.  Once in fine condition, she has had little care recently and is at risk of being lost unless a new owner can be found soon.  Of the four boats originally built to this design, only CLASSIQUE and her sister ship COMPADRE remain today.  I am the owner of COMPADRE and am volunteering my time to ensure that CLASSIQUE is passed along to a new owner with the resources and commitment to restore and care for her.

As recently as 2005, CLASSIQUE  was an outstanding example of a classic yacht.  Unfortunately her former owner passed away, and she has sat at the dock largely unattended for some time.  While the electrical system has been updated, other onboard systems are in need of repair or replacement.  Despite being neglected, CLASSIQUE remains in remarkably good condition.  The forward part of her hull will require some structural work, but otherwise she appears quite sound.  Her solid teak house is in excellent condition and her interior layout and cabinetry are nearly all original.   In short,  CLASSIQUE can be returned to her former high  standard with a reasonable investment of time and money.  Hull repairs and other restoration will be the responsibility of the new owner, but funds are needed now to return her engines to working order and to pay for covered moorage until a new owner can be located.

She is powered by twin GM-353 diesel engines, neither of which currently runs.  Without functioning engines, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to locate a new owner willing to take CLASSIQUE.  One engine turns over but won't start, but the problems are not likely to be serious.  The other engine is frozen, undoubtedly due to the long period of disuse.  It will have to be partially disassembled in order to determine the problem, but hopefully it can be repaired without removal from the boat.  It is estimated that both engines can be returned to service at a cost of around $5000.

Unfortunately the current owner is no longer able to pay for CLASSIQUE's monthly moorage.  In order to provide time to locate a new owner, additional funds are needed to pay moorage for a period of several months.

In summary, CLASSIQUE is an important part of our maritime heritage and is certainly worth saving.  Your support will help make that possible.  Thank you.
