Friday May 19th 2017, every football player’s worst nightmare became reality when Chaz Williams was seriously injured during a Stars and Stripes Academy football game. On a routine play, Chaz dove at the ball carrier and subsequently injured his neck and spinal cord. In the moments following the play, Chaz was motionless on the turf and every person in attendance felt their hearts sink. Chaz was unable to move anything from the chest down. Luckily, retired firefighter Jeff Yock was at the game and immediately ran on the field to assist until emergency responders could arrive. The 16 minute wait was excruciating for everyone watching. Jeff helped keep Chaz calm and still during the wait even though Chaz was dazed and confused after the hit. Jeff truly was Chaz’s angel during this time. After being rushed to the hospital and examined, it was discovered Chaz broke his C5 vertebrae in his neck with additional serious damage to his spinal cord. He was then rushed into emergency surgery and is now recovering. Chaz is an amazing father to a little girl, Mya who recently turned 10 years old on May 16th. He is a great friend and teammate. Chaz is one of the strongest people you will come across and anyone who knows him would describe him as a fighter. We all know he will get through this and he has a tough road to recovery ahead. This page is being started to ease the financial burden that comes with a serious injury like this so Chaz can focus on one thing, recovery.
