Motherwell and District Women's Aid (MDWA ) provides a safe space for ALL women and children at risk of Domestic Violence.
North Lanarkshire is one of the worst affected areas in the UK for domestic violence and abuse. Almost 1 in 37 households suffer from this, so it's a huge and mostly unseen problem. The COVID-19 pandemic has also prompted an increase in violence rates and just when we need support the most, we're finding it most difficult to come by.
As of May 2021, our funding is set to be removed, making North Lanarkshire the first Scottish local authority to remove funding for organisations which provide dedicated refuge and support to women and girls fleeing, or at risk of, domestic violence.
