Morley Town AFC Lockdown Miles For Christmas

4.2 million children live in poverty in the UK. That's 30 per cent of children, or 9 in a classroom of 30. Many of these children receive support in term time but their need simply doesn't stop when school holidays start. For many the holidays are a time of added hardship and stress, never more so than in the current climate. You may have seen the recent campaign from Marcus Rashford to #endchildfoodpoverty and extend the support children on free school meals receive in term time to the holidays. 

At Morley Town AFC we want to do our bit to help this campaign as it is something we strongly agree with. We are aiming to raise money to provide support to families in our local community over the Christmas holidays. We want to support a minimum of 50 families with a Christmas food hamper. 

To show our support for this as a club we will be undertaking a challenge throughout this coming second national 4 week lockdown. There are 766 children who access free school meals in the primary schools in and around Morley. As a club we are going to attempt to run/walk/cycle 2 miles for each of these children to represent the 2 weeks of the Christmas holidays in which they may face unnecessary struggles. This will be a total 1532 miles over the four weeks of lockdown.  

We will be working with Rethink Food CIC and local primary schools to identify the families who will receive the hampers. Your support will mean the world to us and the children in our local community who need our support more than ever.
