My name is Glemiël Polak, a designer, skater, and community builder from Rotterdam with Surinamese roots.
Together with Patta, I’m currently working on building a skatepark and community space in Paramaribo, Suriname. A place where young people can come together, move, create, and express themselves through skateboarding and culture.
This project goes beyond just a skatepark. It’s about creating a safe and inspiring environment where the next generation can grow, connect, and build something for themselves.
Why is this cause important to you?
Skateboarding has always been more than just a sport to me.
It’s a way to express yourself, to find your people, and to grow.
In Suriname, there is talent, energy, and interest, but there are almost no proper spaces to skate. Because of that, many young people stop before they even really start.
I’ve seen how powerful skate culture can be in places like Rotterdam, and I believe the same energy can exist in Suriname, if we create the right foundation.
This project is personal. It’s about giving back, creating opportunities, and building something that represents freedom, creativity, and community.
How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to take the first real steps in making this project a reality, including:
- Designing and developing the skatepark together with experienced builders
- Organising community events and workshops to activate and involve local youth
- Providing skateboards, gear, and support for beginners
- Supporting the first phase of construction and setup
Every contribution helps us move one step closer to creating a space that can have long-term impact.
How will the beneficiary receive the funds?
The funds will be managed and used directly for the development of the skatepark project in Suriname.
They will go towards project-related costs such as design, materials, community programming, and local collaborations.
We are working together with trusted partners and will ensure that all funds are used transparently and with the goal of creating lasting impact for the community.
