Solar Power for the Youth

Uganda Pioneers Association is a youth organization focused on community-based development, intercultural co-operation and youth participation through voluntary work.

We run an office with 4 workspaces and a guesthouse to accommodate our international volunteers in Nansana, Uganda.

Our Challenge:
We are currently facing a problem of unstable power supply at our office and the volunteers’ residence in Nansana due to the increasing number of residents and businesses in our locality.

Nansana is the second most populated urban authority in Uganda with over 400,000 residents after Kampala City. The power supply is not stable. This affects our operation at the office as well as poses a security risk to our international volunteers living in our guesthouse.

Power blackouts can last between 2 and 18 hours and occur at any time, without any prior notice.

> If they happen during the day, our office is out of operation.
> Power cuts at night mean total darkness in and around our premises hence posing a security risk our volunteers. The dark place makes the volunteers and our office more prone to thieves.

What we need
We are crowdfunding for a solar power back up system to supply us with electricity when power has been cut.
The solar system will be composed of Panels, Batteries, Inverter, Charge Controler, Cable, Labour, and Transport.

The system will make us more independent from the various power cuts that happen in our community.

What it means to us
A solar system and the guarantee for power will help us to work towards our mission: promoting community-based development, intercultural co-operation and youth participation through voluntary work.
Also it means a lot for our volunteers, as it improves their security situation at night.
