Missy, Cary and their two young boys, Uzi (5 years) and Trey (4 months) lost their home and all of their belongings in the massive fire that has engulfed Northern California.
In the early hours of October 9th, Cary went outside and saw that the fire that had almost reached their home. He woke Missy and their children, and they threw a few basic items in their car and fled around 2am, certain that they would be able to return home after the fire was extinguished.
The following day, a neighbor sent them a picture of the place where their home had stood - it was completely burned down to the foundation, along with all of their clothes, furniture, toys, keepsakes, and the many valuables that they were forced to leave behind.
Missy, Cary, Uzi and Trey are temporarily staying with family while they attempt to process this shocking loss and figure out how to rebuild their lives.
Right now, they need money to buy new clothes and find a rental house (preferably in the Santa Cruz area) so that Uzi can resume kindergarten. They are starting from scratch so any help you can give will help immensely.
I have been friends with Missy for over 10 years and my husband, Owen, has been friends with Missy since high school. She is one of the best, funniest people I know. When I told her that I wanted to set up a campaign to raise money for her family, she said "...I just feel bad for the people with nothing."
