The Miss Black Virginia USA Story

Greetings and salutations to you and yours from beautiful Blacksburg, Virginia! My name is Midori Amae and I am a Virginia Tech graduate, graphic designer and your Miss Black Virginia USA!

The Miss Black USA Pageant celebrates scholastic achievement and believes that education is the key to lifelong success and empowerment. The Miss Black USA Pageant is a community driven organization and is committed to addressing health and education, two leading social issues in the African American community.

I am beyond proud to compete and represent my beautiful state of Virginia! As a teen, I worked with local government advocating for youth in Loudoun County and represented my state on the steps of Capital Hill, speaking in front of congressional staff at age 17 on the issues teens were facing in today's society. I have represented my historic hometown of Leesburg, Va by being selected by my local government and school to attend Girls State by the American Legion where I learned effective leadership skills, discussed government strategy for effective policy creation and partook in fulfilling fellowship with other outstanding female leaders from my state.

During my time at Virginia Tech, along with earning two bachelor's degrees in Spanish and Studio Art, I was able to help charter a campus chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi, founded an artistic group called VT EXPRESSIONS, sang in the Enlightened Gospel Choir, gave back through my personal philanthropy with the Montgomery County Animal Shelter and was crowned Miss Black and Gold 2012-2013 for the Theta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

As I work towards positively shaping the lives of our female youth and creating a better world for my younger sister to live in, I am also preparing to compete for the title of Miss Black USA, held August 2017 in Washington, DC. This goal of mine could not come to fruition without the financial support of friends, family and sponsors. I thank you deeply from the bottom of my heart for all you have done and continue to do in my pageant career.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via Go Fund Me.

With your unwavering support, this dream can and will come true. Get me to nationals and I'll do the rest!

Yours in Pageantry,
Midori Amae
