Mind The Hive

Donation protected
Hi friends,

Mind the Hive is a new community focused bee-keeping project geared towards education, entrepreneurship, craft and sustainability. We just started our program this past year and it has been quite the learning experience.

In 2016 Mind the Hive sourced materials and built our own equipment. We provided workshops and hive tours to introduce the bee-curious to the nature of a hive environment. We provided pollinators to a few amazing community garden spaces. We lost a hive to an invasion of yellow jackets* and learned from our mistakes. We sampled fresh honey and made candles with the best smelling beeswax. Our bees are currently tucked in for the winter feeding off of their summer supplies and hopefully growing stronger for a new year of dandelions, raspberry bushes, apple trees and all of the other creative plant projects happening in our host gardens.

As our project grows so too will our ability to fund our program with sales of the honey and wax products our (and the bee’s) efforts produce. Unfortunately Beekeeping is not without its overhead costs and we would like to provide as much free programing as we can.

Now we’re entering the spring season and adding to our mission I would love your help in growing this project to help reach its full potential.

Our goal for this season is to raise $1000 so that we can more than continue but also expand. Here is a simple breakdown of where we need this money to go:

$130 for each new package of bees

$200 for materials for crafting each hive body

$165/month for studio sp
ace and woodshop use

$100 for workshop materials including keepers attire and paint

$? For troubleshooting and replacing needed equipment that we cannot fabricate

Any amount helps and all donated proceeds will go directly into Mind the Hive. If we exceed our expected donations we will grow to match, if we make less than anticipated we will continue to work hard to help this project become everything it can be.

*yellow jackets as pesky as they are play an important role in our ecosystem and Mind the Hive has no hard feelings against the opportunistic invaders.
