Milk for Moshi

Hey folks!  Thanks for stopping by.   Let me introduce you to my friend Mike.


Mike, lives in Moshi, Tanzania.  Moshi is a town that sits in the shadow of Africa's highest peak.  It's a jumping off point for travelers venturing into the Serengeti on safari and climbers seeking to ascend Kilimanjaro.  Most people in Moshi work in the tourism business, an industry that has been totally destroyed by COVID-19.  Mike is one of those individuals. 

Mike supports his family, including his mother, nieces and nephews.  They live together in a suburb on the flanks of Kilimanjaro.   Mike is also expecting a child in December with his fiance, Anah.  He earned his Bachelor's in Tourism from Sokoine University in 2017. 


With tourism outlooks grim for the foreseeable future, Mike is working to reinvent himself.  To strengthen the local economy and move away from reliance on outside money, Mike has decided to start a dairy distribution business.  Milk and milk products are a significant source of food in Tanzanian culture.  There are many rural farmers selling milk and plenty of buyers in the city, but there are almost no dairy distributors in the region.

Mike plans to buy milk from rural farmers, drive it into the city, and sell the milk to grocery stores, hotels, and outfitters.  As a dairy distributor, Mike will be supporting farmers and providing daily fresh milk to businesses throughout the Kilimanjaro region.  It will be a win-win for many people in the community.


There is one major hurdle, however: Mike needs a truck and a refrigerator to make his dream a reality.  Unlike the United States where a new business owner can get a loan, Tanzania does not have such options.  Affording a truck is far out of the realm of possibility for Mike.   In his previous tourism job, Mike earned only $13 per day--not enough to provide for his family and save for his future business.

We're seeking your help to raise $4250.  This is enough money to buy a decent used Suzuki mini-truck, a plug-in refrigerator, and the milk cans needed to get his business off the ground. 


With your helpful donation, Mike will build a more resilient local Tanzanian economy by paying fair prices to farmers and providing fresh milk to urban city dwellers.  His business plan entails hiring workers and expanding as needed.  Your contribution now will benefit countless people in the years ahead.


We need your help as soon as possible.  COVID-19 has completely locked down tourism within Tanzania, and Mike desperately needs to get this business operational in short order.
