Miggy's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Thank you to everyone for your positivity and support through this ordeal. I really appreciate all the love for Miggy.

It's been roughly two weeks since everything started. It started slow with Miggs wincing and whining from the slightest touch. Then, Miggy suddenly lost his ability to walk properly. He lost control of his hind legs. We rushed to the ER for a second time and they referred us to an emergency neurologist where he was hospitalized for an MRI.

The neurologist re-evaluated Miggy due to the rapid onset of symptoms. It was decided to get an MRI of his head and a second MRI on his spine. The results revealed a lesion in his nasal cavity that had grown into his brain affecting his ability to walk and his vision.

The neurologist came to the conclusion that it was either a tumor or a fungal infection. The blood culture conclusively revealed a fungal infection caused by  cryptococcus (common in soil and bird droppings). It was a relief to hear that it was not a tumor. I assumed, with an infection, a rapid dose of medication would fix him right up. I was speechless to learn that this treatment would be months long, potentially a year or more.

At this moment, I am just happy to say that Miggy is not affected by cancer.

Right now, Miggy is at home resting while taking his medication. Again, I hoped for some immediate results, but he still has not regained his mobility. The veterinarian can not say for certain if anything is permanently damaged. Only time will tell if everything goes back to normal.

Miggy was under great care at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, but it was quite costly. Much more costly than I thought. I started this gofundme in hopes to cover at least some of this heavy bill. We are also looking at an additional monthly medication bill.

As a current student and recently getting engaged, any contribution for Miggy  would help my fiancé and I tremendously.

Thank you again for taking the time to read and support Miggs. I truly believe that Miggs will make a full recovery but its still a long road ahead. We appreciate all the love and positive vibes that have been sent his way. He knows he's loved and he's fighting to always be the bestest doge ever.

Please, share your love with your pets. Hug them extra tight, get all the boops and spoil them with an extra treats. I also implore everyone to look into pet insurance. I made the mistake of waiting too long and found myself in this pickle. But I trust the universe. Miggs will be up and running again soon enough. Please keep him in your prayers.

With love and thanks,

Eric and Hana
