Maternity Care in Namibia

Donation protected

By donating to this cause, you will be helping two midwives from Tasmania share their knowledge and experience to help reduce maternal and newborn deaths in Namibia, Africa.

Kylie Schramm and Jane Dermer will be making this journey in March 2023.

Around every two minutes, a woman dies from pregnancy complications.

  • Australia's maternal mortality rate is 6 deaths for every 100,000 live births.

  • Namibia has a maternal mortality rate of 265 deaths per 100,000 live births.

That is an unacceptable difference.

Access to health care is a fundamental human right. This should not be determined by where you live.

Every year, a team of health professionals from Health Volunteers International (HVI) visit three main hospitals in Namibia to provide medical education, training and capacity building to improve the quality of health care in African countries.

HVI is a not-for-profit organisation whose vision is to make the highest attainable standard of health accessible to all. HVI's primary focus is to reduce the number of women dying from childbirth and pregnancy-related causes and to promote female empowerment.

Your generous donations will help to cover the flight costs for Kylie and Jane. Any funds we receive above and beyond our target will be donated to Health Volunteers International and future midwives volunteering their time in Namibia.

Kylie and Jane will be volunteering and covering all of their other related expenses.

Please help us to support this very worthy cause.

Thank you sincerely,

Kylie and Jane
