PLEASE AID MICHAEL WITH MEDICAL DEBT

Hello All, My name is Valerie and I am again writing to give you all an update on Mike’s progress.  After nearly 5 months home from his lengthy stays at in patient rehabilitation he has begun to relearn to walk with the aid of his physical therapist, oxygen and a walker inside the condo for short periods of time.  This is so very encouraging!!  But I have to, once again, respectfully ask for your help for my 27 year partner, Michael, age 66. Mikey is the most gentle soul I know. Please....Mike is proud and that’s why I am writing this to plead with all you good people out there. Back story: Never in a million years did Mikey think he would go through his life savings to save his life but that's what happened in a little over a year.

He has endured multiple stays in area hospitals and rehab facilities and was subjected to inept medical care resulting in multiple bouts of UTIs & falls, 3 rounds of lungs issues, the flu, 4 diagnosis of sepsis and one of Covid contracted at the hospital where he had his last surgery.  Additionally he endured  four life threatening medical emergencies en route to those medical facilities.  Fast forward: the hospitals finally correctly diagnose him with acute COPD, SIADH,  125 lb of fluid buildup, edema of his heart, lungs, legs, wounds, a small ascending aortic aneurysm & a much overlooked gastrointestinal disorder that needed surgery.  Due to the ineptness of hospital staff, they delayed his surgery so his gallbladder burst leaving his abdominal cavity to be filled with bile and they were not sure whether or not he would wake up. Over all Mike spent over 5 months in varies Ocean County NJ hospitals and over 100 days in rehab facilities. We had to hire one 8 hr 7 day a week shift of a health aide service @ $350 a day until the money ran out mid December 2024. I have gone into some detail to let you all know what he has endure both emotionally and physically. It has drained his spirit and his bank account. We have explored a home equity loan, debt consolidation loans, backruptcy protection and a reverse mortgage but he does not qualify for anything. He does have a very modest pension but his savings have all been drained. All other medical needs went on his credit cards and they are all maxed out. He was just reinterviewed for SNAP so he is not sure if that benefit will continue in April. In addition to the two bills of the six in patient rehab facilities this month these last two months amounting to $ 31,000 he received another one for $ 10,100 and he knows there are more to come. He can’t move but he can't afford these additional bills. His electric bill has skyrocketed to $ 500 + a month due to a 24 hr oxygen system, a generator, by-pap ,  and assorted portable oxygen tanks.  To add insult to injury, he received notifications from his secondary insurance which has ended their contract with his primary healthcare providers and medical facility & Medicare is ending payment for telemedicine appointments at the end of March.  I realize we are all financially hurting these days but if you can spare anything please, please help me  help him get through this dark time in his life.   Please share his story with everyone you know.  We will pay for your kindness and generosity forward when possible.  God bless you and keep you all healthy and safe.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
