Michael Mondt and his family

Spende geschützt
We are trying to raise for our brother Michael Mondt and his family during this tragic time in their lives. On July 20th, Michael was working in his auto shop and became the victim of a terrible accident.

He was evacuating gasoline from a vehicle when one of his auxiliary pumps shorted and caught fire. Michael tried to get a container of flammable liquids away from the fire, but they ignited, and he was engulfed in flames. His father was in the shop that day and managed to get Michael out of the fire. He assisted Michael until the EMTs arrived. Michael had to be intubated and suffered burns on over 70 percent of his body. He has now been airlifted to the University of Utah Health Care burn unit in Salt Lake City. Overnight, he suffered a heart attack and kidney failure. He is in critical condition and in desperate need of prayers.

Michael is a veteran that served with the United States Marine Corps. He started the auto shop with his family in honor of his late brother. He had also fought to create the shop during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Bethany, and a loving father to their three children. He is the sole provider for their household income, so this event will devastate their family's financial stability. Bethany had to rush to Salt Lake City Wednesday night, which was approximately a 360-mile drive.

Their family is going to need an incredible amount of support. Michael is facing a very extended hospital stay as he will have a long road to recovery from this incident. Bethany will need support to provide for their family without Michael's income, and she will have to make numerous trips between their home and the hospital. They are facing tremendous hardship among the medical bills, travel expenses, and costs to repair the business. Anything that you are willing to give will help them immensely. Even if you can't provide financial assistance, they will need continued prayers through this difficult time.

Thank you for everything you do to help them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE 7/24/22 -- Michael breathed on his own for an hour yesterday, but they have him on medication to reduce pain from hand splints they have for him. This medication does slow his breathing, so he had to go back on the ventilator. They are trying to set his machine to a setting that fosters him breathing as much as he can on his own.

He has been diagnosed with third-degree burns across 70% of his body and is still at high risk of losing his hands. Please keep him in your prayers and include praying he keeps his hands. He is struggling with losing a lot of blood after Thursday's surgery.

He has undergone an excisional debridement, which is the surgical removal of skin or subcutaneous tissue that may be necrotic or devitalized. His blood pressure has been very low since the first surgery, and they have spent the last couple of days trying to raise his blood pressure for the next surgery.

He is proving that he is still a fighter for sure. The team has had to apply restraints on him to prevent him from trying to remove his tubes. Yet, he still came close to getting them out, even restrained.

His troponin has been low but is, thankfully, rising. Troponin (or troponin complex) is a complex of three proteins integral to muscle contraction regulation. Troponin I and T are measured extensively as diagnostic or prognostic indicators in the management of myocardial infarction or acute coronary syndrome. Troponin C (or blood troponin) levels are used as a diagnostic marker for ongoing stroke or other ongoing myocardial injuries, though this measurement has low sensitivity.

You can send letters or cards for him to the following address:

Please have them read "In Care of the Mondt Family"

Thank you for all of the support and prayers. They mean so much to the family, and Michael can use them.
