Fidjus di Terra bedankt alle donateurs en iedereen die heeft meegeholpen aan de Campagne “Mi é Cabo Verde”, namens de gezinnen in Kaapverdië. We hebben vandaag 16 april  ons eerste doelbedrag behaald van € 10.000 in fase 1. Waarom fase 1? Omdat we ontzettend veel behoeftige gezinnen willen helpen op de eilanden, gaan we meteen door naar Fase 2. Juist NU duidelijk is hoeveel besmettingen er op Kaapverdië zijn, waarbij we dagelijks worden opgeschrikt door nog meer uitslagen. Juist NU vele medewerkers al een paar weken geen salaris ontvangen waardoor ze geen geld hebben om  boodschappen te doen. Juist NU moeten we doorpakken en op naar de € 20.000. Doe jij ook mee? Doneer en deel deze campagne zoveel mogelijk. We kunnen met dit eerste opgehaalde bedrag van € 10.000  zo snel mogelijk de benodigde voedselpakketten inkopen in Kaapverdië en hiermee ook de  boeren en winkeliers helpen. Vervolgens starten we meteen met het uitdelen van deze voedselpakketten op de verschillende eilanden van Kaapverdië. Op 22 maart zijn wij, Fidjus di Terra, gestart met de noodhulpactie Mi é Cabo Verde – IK BEN KAAPVERDIË. Met als doel om Kaapverdië te helpen rondom alle ontwikkelingen van COVID-19 in Kaapverdië. Op donderdag 19 maart werd de 1e positieve casus gevonden en ondertussen zijn er 55 bevestigde besmettingen verdeeld over 3 eilanden. Kaapverdië is voor een groot gedeelte van haar inkomsten afhankelijk van de toerisme sector en van import uit andere landen.  Met het luchtruim dat nu gesloten is, het toerisme dat momenteel stil ligt en het feit dat de Kaapverdiaanse regering weinig financiële reserves heeft ,is de kans groot dat deze pandemie die de hele wereld in haar greep heeft Kaapverdië keihard zal raken. Staan we aan de rand van een grote ramp in Kaapverdië? Maakt Kaapverdië zich op voor een hongersnood, aangezien de eilanden afhankelijk zijn van andere landen?   “ Zo'n grote ramp is ongekend.  Em 22 de março, nós, Fidjus di Terra, iniciamos a ação de ajuda Mi é Cabo Verde - EU SOU CABO VERDE com o objetivo de apoiar  Cabo Verde nesta luta contra o COVID-19. O primeiro caso positivo foi registado na quinta-feira, 19 de março e, entretando, 55 infecções mais já foram confirmadas, em três ilhas diferentes.  Cabo Verde depende em grande parte do seu rendimento no setor do turismo e das importações.  Com o espaço aéreo agora fechado, o turismo paralisado e o fato do governo cabo-verdiano ter poucas reservas financeiras é provável que essa pandemia, que assolou o mundo inteiro, atinja Cabo Verde com força.  Estamos à beira de um grande desastre em Cabo Verde?  Cabo Verde está se preparando para a fome, pois as ilhas dependem muito de outros países?  “Um desastre tão grande é sem precedentes.  A grave combinação de COVID-19, desemprego e pobreza coloca em risco centenas de milhares de vidas.  As crianças, os doentes e os mais carenciados correm um enorme risco.  Não podemos continuar assistindo sem fazer nada '', diz o grupo de cabo-verdianos na Holanda, Fidjus di Terra.

Today the 16th of April we have met our first target in the form of 10.000 Euro so we can start to implement fase one of our project. Because there are many families in need we will immediately move forward with fase 2. In particular now that we are noticing that more contaminations are being discovered on a daily basis. Now that many employees have been missing out on salary payments for several weeks they are running out of money to buy the basic groceries that they will need to survive. That is why now is the time to push forward to our next goal which is 20.000 Euro. Will you also join us in our cause? Please donate what you are able to and share this message with as many people as possible. The first 10.000 will soon be transferred in order to start buying the much needed foodpackadges in Cape Verde and to start helping the farmers and shopkeepers as well. Background information.

 

On the 22nd of March we, Fidjus di Terra started the emergency hulp initiative "I am Cape Verde" with as main objective to help Cape Verde amidst all the developments that Covid 19 is causing in Cape Verde. On Thursday the 19th of March the first positive case was identified and right now there are 55 confirmed infected individuals divided over 3 islands. Cape verde is greatly dependent on the tourism sector and import from other countries. With the airspace being closed currently the tourism industry has grinded to a halt,and the reality that the Cape Verdean government does not have many financial reserves, it is extremely likely that this pandemic which is currently affecting the entire world, will cause an enormous effect on the Cape Verde economy. Are we at the edge of an enormous disaster in Cape Verde? Is Cape Verde headed for a famine since the islands are so dependent on other countries ? A disaster of this seize is unheard of.  A deadly combination of Covid 19, unemployment and poverty wil endanger the life of hundreds of thousands. In particular children, sick and the poor will be in imminent danger. "We cannot stand idly by and do nothing" says the group Fidjus di Terra

Staan we aan de vooravond van een grote ramp in Kaapverdië? Maakt Kaapverdië zich op voor een hongersnood, aangezien de eilanden afhankelijk zijn van andere landen?   

Donderdag 19 maart 2020, is de eerste positieve casus van de COVID-19-test in Cabo Verde, Boavista gevonden.  Ondertussen zijn er al 3 bevestigde gevallen in Kaapverdië.  Is dit het topje van de ijsberg? Zijn er meer gevallen waar we nog niet van af weten? Kan Kaapverdië een gezondheidscrisis EN economische crisis aan? NEE! De huidige gezondheidszorg in Kaapverdië is niet ingericht op deze pandemie die op dit moment de hele wereld in haar greep heeft!

Een paar dagen geleden sloot Kaapverdië een groot gedeelte van haar luchtruim en nam de regering verschillende andere maatregelen om haar burgers te beschermen! Kaapverdië is een klein land dat voor een groot gedeelte afhankelijk is van toerisme. Het buitensluiten van toeristen (om gezondheidsredenen) betekent al een grote financiële klap voor de tienduizenden medewerkers (alleen al op Sal werken er maar liefst 60.000 mensen in de toeristische sector). 

En daarom is JOUW hulp nu HARD nodig. Wij lanceren in samenwerking met het Rode Kruis in Kaapverdië (Cruz Vermelha de Cabo Verde) de campagne Mi é Cabo Verde: #thetimeisnow!!!

Maak NU € 10,00 over om je mede-Kaapverdianen in Kaapverdië te helpen. Met dit bedrag kunnen we voedselpakketten samenstellen voor de meest behoeftige mensen op de eilanden. De uitgifte van deze pakketten wordt gecoördineerd en uitgevoerd door het Rode Kruis Kaapverdië in samenwerking met al onze contacten die wij (Nederlandse Kaapverdianen) hebben op de verschillende eilanden.  Jouw steun betekent dat ze we een gezin te eten kunnen geven.

Are we on the edge of a major disaster on the Cape Verde Islands? Is Cape Verde headed towards a famine, seeing as the islands are heavily dependent on imports from other countries?  Thursday March 19th 2020, the first case of Covid 19 has been confirmed in Cape Verde on the island Boa Vista. Meanwhile, there are already 3 confirmed cases in Cape Verde.

 Is this the tip of the iceberg? Are more people already infected that we do not know about? Unfortunately this is possible and could have huge consequences.

Is Cape Verde able to handle a health crisis as well as an economic crisis? The answer to these questions is most definitely NO.The current health care system is not set up to deal with the pandemic that is currently taking hold all over the world. Several days ago the Cape Verde government closed down a major part of their airspace and has taken further steps in order to protect its citizens. Cape Verde however is a small country and for a large part dependent on income generated by tourism. 

Shutting out tourists for health safety reasons will mean a huge financial burden for tens of thousands of people. On the Island of Sal alone approximately 60.000 people are working in tourism. This is why your help is needed urgently right now!

In collaboration with the Red Cross we are launching the Mi é Cabo Verde: #thetimeisnow!!! initiative. Please donate 10 Euro to help your fellow CapeVerdeans on the Cape Verde islands. This money will be used to assemble food packages for the most vulnerable people on the islands. The distribution of these packages will be coordinated by the Cape Verdean Red Cross together with all other contacts we (Dutch Cape Verdeans) have all over the different islands. Your support means we will be able to feed a family.

"A disaster of this magnitude is unheard of. A combination of COVID-19, unemployment and poverty will jeopardize hunderds of thousands of lives. Particularly children, the infirm and impoverished will be in immediate danger. We cannot just stand by and do nothing" said a spokesperson for Fidjus di Terra Netherlands. This crowd funding initiative is completely transparant and all the money which will be collected (besides minimal fees to use this platform) will be used for the benefit of the people of Cape Verde. All people involved in the initiative both in Cape Verde and the Netherlands are volunteers.
