Thailand Veterinary Service Program

Donation protected
As an undergraduate honors student at the University of Georgia, I currently am working on my Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree, with a major in Animal Health, and intend to seek acceptance into UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Currently, I am seeking as much hands-on experience as possible and have found an incredible opportunity. The LOOP Abroad College Veterinary Service program is a two-week trip into Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand with an emphasis on service through veterinary medicine. Within these two weeks, students are given the opportunity to practice clinical skills within veterinary medicine in a variety of unique settings, while also being immersed within the Thai culture. In one week, undergraduates work with a Thai veterinarian at the Animal Rescue Kingdom Dog Shelter in Chiang Mai city, assisting with surgical procedures and learning hands-on from the vet. The other week is spent living and volunteering with rescue elephants at the Chiang Mai Elephant Nature Park in a specially-tailored volunteer program that enables individuals to safely learn to work with Asian elephants and provide overall care for this exotic species. Finally, the evenings and weekends of both weeks will be spent appreciating the Thai culture through a variety of outlets such as cooking classes, language lessons, and visits to several religious centers. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn a great deal, as well as help the Thai people and animals. I hope to register as an intern and participate in the summer of 2018 at the end of July and intend to use any donations I receive to fund my tuition and airfare to Chiang Mai.
This program aligns with my personal, academic and vocational goals because it incorporates environmental activism and conservation with veterinary medicine, which promises to heighten the development of my future as a whole as an intended veterinary student. Additionally, I am thrilled by the opportunity to immerse myself in a rich, fascinating culture divergent from my own. Any donations I receive would enable the realization of what I expect to be one of the most unique and illuminative experiences of my life! I cannot tell you how thankful I am to be provided an opportunity such as this and how appreciative I would be of all and any support. Thank-you!
