Azores Youth Mission Trip

Dear Friends and Family,
I hope this finds you and your family doing well and enjoying the New Year! I am currently a freshman at Shades Mountain Christian School and a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church youth group. I have really enjoyed it here at both my school and church. God has so many exciting things in store for me during my years here.
I’m so excited about an amazing opportunity God has given me. During Spring Break, March 27th-April 5th, 2015, I will be going to the Azores on a mission trip with a Shades Mountain Baptist mission team. The Azores are a group of nine Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, mid-way between Portugal and N. America. The population is 250,000, but the evangelical community is small – four of the nine islands have no Protestant church. While in the Azores our team will be working with Art Nielson and the Azorean Baptist Church to renovate the youth camp property.
The camp is used all year round for children’s and young people’s camps. It will also be used for training courses, family retreats and church conferences. The local Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) workers have developed a strong, effective ministry for the local Portuguese children, as well as for the children on the large US base of Lajes on Terceira Island. Camps are a vital link in the CEF ministry. When children, scattered over several islands, come together, they not only receive good teaching, they also see the Gospel lived out before them in the lives of the counselors. The ministry of the camp will make a significant impact for the Lord in the Azores. There are no other missionary organizations like CEF on any of the islands and no other Christian facility to hold camps. Up until now it has been necessary to use borrowed tents. Primitive kitchen and dining facilities, as well as toilets have had to be constructed and dismantled.
First of all, I would really appreciate your prayer and support for me on this trip. It will be a challenging and stretching experience for all of us while we are over there. Please pray for the safety, health, and spiritual preparedness for the whole team, as well as the hearts of the people we come in contact with. Your prayer support is vitally important for this trip. It is much appreciated and is the spiritual foundation for the work we will be doing. I would also ask that you prayerfully consider supporting me on this trip through monetary donation. I am trusting God to provide the money for me to go, as any international trip can be costly.
