David Allan Gustafson tragically and unexpectedly passed away from unknown causes at 33. He was a joyful, warm, and curious soul—gifted in many ways and deeply loved by those who knew him. As a healthy young man he did not have any life insurance or burial insurance, which is why we are asking for your financial help to cover the staggering expenses for his funeral and memorial. Any and all of your financial help is prayerfully welcomed as well as sharing this message.

After growing up and attending school in Orono and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, David went on to study at the University of St. Thomas. He spent the past decade living and working in the Twin Cities area, taking on multiple jobs as needed to support himself. Outside of working 3 jobs currently, he found joy in reading, shooting pool ( serving as captain of his team), hiking, climbing, and other athletic pursuits, including participating in marathons and races over the years.

David was a generous and compassionate person, always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Most recently, he stepped in to foster a Pitbull named Buttons to help someone who no longer had the capacity to care for three dogs. He was also a gifted and prolific writer of poems and short stories. David loved the outdoors and held a deep appreciation for the beauty, peace, and grounding it offered. Always up for an adventure, his curiosity and openness to new experiences are qualities his friends and family will remember fondly.

David’s passing was completely unexpected, leaving his family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken and shaken. To honor his life and create space for those who loved him to gather, reflect and support one another, we are planning a memorial service:

The Celebration of David's Life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1:00-3:00pm at Victory Lutheran Church Eden Prairie, Minnesota, followed by a gathering with refreshments and socializing. In lieu of flowers or gifts please consider a donation.

We are raising funds to help cover the costs of these services and to ease this unforeseen financial burden on David’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution—no matter the size—is deeply appreciated and will go directly toward honoring David’s memory.
