Mel Ruddy's Memorial

What can we say about my dad? So, so many things that wouldn't even begin to measure up to the impact he had in our lives. It's as if trying to find the words actually minimizes the truth and the essence of who he is and who he was. Those of you who truly knew and loved him will understand this fully. And to those of you who didn't know him deeply, know that he was exceptionally special. Underneath his tough exterior was a genuine softness that few were privileged enough to witness, and one that grew SO much over the last few years. He gained a wiseness throughout his struggles that continues to impress me. I have always admired that he could hold onto the fullness of being a kid, even while battling his body shutting down, and that not only could he hold that playfulness, but he could also infuse it with the wisdom of facing his mortality on a daily basis. That was truly remarkable. He was my father, my teacher, my buddy, and an inspiration.

This fundraiser aims to help my mom with his lingering medical bills and with memorial expenses. Over the last few years, his frequent hospital visits have really taken a toll on them financially. We are asking for anything at all to help keep my mom afloat in this trying time and appreciate anything you might be able to offer.

For those of you who are interested, we will be holding a celebration of life at a later date, to be determined.
