Meghan's Rapid Hearing Loss Journey

After giving birth to twin boys Meghan's family began to notice a decline in her hearing. Little did she know a simple hearing test would be the start of her rapid hearing loss journey. Initially Meghan was told her rapid hearing loss was due to pregnancy hormones. She saw every specialist and took every medication prescribed just to find out that her hearing loss isn't attributed to pregnancy hormones and the actual origin is still unknown.
    Her twins are now 7 years old and her hearing has declined dramatically over the years. Meghan wasn't born deaf so her brain was able to assist her with word recognition. However, Meghan's most recent hearing test revealed that her word recognition has dropped significantly in both ears. Meghan's left ear is now down to 42% hearing and her right ear is only at 38% hearing. This means Meghan's brain is no longer able to assist her with recognizing speech. Meghan was born hearing and because her hearing loss came so rapidly she is not fluent in ASL and relies heavily on reading lips to communicate. Covid has made her hearing loss a true nightmare. Mandatory mask mandates has made communication nearly impossible leaving her anxious and afraid to interact with people in public.
    Fortunately this doesn't have to be the end of Meghan's hearing journey. She was given the chance to test out a new hearing aid made for people with her type of hearing loss. For the first time in years she was able to listen to the radio and hear the words. For the first time in years she could actually hear her boys play. Unfortunately these hearing aids also come with a $5000 price tag. Meghan is a dedicated mother and educator who has dreams of returning to the classroom and to continue to have experiences many of us take for granted. Let's help her achieve this dream.
