Meghan's Medical Support
Beschermde donatie
As some of you may already know from Meghan's Facebook posts, she has an upcoming surgery to remove a tumor from her arm. This is an extensive surgery requiring a specific orthopedic oncologist who will need to go in and remove the entire tumor. Depending on the results from the biopsy, the oncologist may need to go back in and do another surgery.
Medical expenses can be quite a hefty burden. Meghan could use any support you can give to help her pay for the surgery, testing, and living expenses as she recovers from this painful surgery. We ask that you please give what you can and keep her in your prayers.
Read Meghan's story in her own words below:
"In late September my right arm began to really hurt at the lower end of my forearm. It was an intense pain and it wouldn’t go away no matter what I did. My doctor and I had been trying to solve the problem but she wasn’t really running tests or trying to figure it out. She was confident in her answer that it was 'nerve pain'. After about two months of this 'nerve pain,' I decided that I was not confident in what she diagnosed. My forearm was starting to grow bigger, especially disproportionate to the left arm. The pain began to get worse. So I went back to my doctor and firmly asked her to order an MRI. Upon getting the results, she calls me and says 'soooooo there’s something interesting on your MRI.'
All that to say, I have a tumor. It is a soft tissue tumor about 1cm x 2cm x 3.5cm. Apparently with tumors like this it is impossible to know if it’s cancerous without taking it out. However, I have been told that it’s likely not malignant, and that’s all I can hope for. I will not have a definite answer on what type of tumor it is until it is removed and sent to pathology. If it is benign, he said it will likely be a Desmoid tumor. Those tumors have a high recurrence rate and the best shot I have of it not growing back will be to remove it well the first time. I met with a surgeon, he says the tumor is wrapped around my bone and that he may not be the best surgeon to remove it.
Today I met with a new surgeon, she’s an orthopedic oncologist and she will be the one to do the surgery. There was a lot said at the appointment and I didn’t understand most of it. Basically, she’s not as confident as my other doctors were that it’s a desmoid tumor. She’s not leaning that direction and she even threw a whole new possible diagnosis in the mix, an AVM. Either way, it needs to come out and be biopsied in case it is cancer or another type of tumor. So I have my surgery scheduled for December 27th at 5am!
The plan is to remove the mass and send it to pathology. Best case scenario, it comes out and that’s the end of it. I’ll be recovering from the surgery for 2 weeks but she said it’ll be about 6 weeks before I can expect the pain to get better if all goes according to plan. If the biopsy comes back and everything doesn’t go according to plan then that’s a whole new story with another surgery. So we can only hope and pray that the biopsy will be good!"
