DAXTON's NEVER ENDING BATTLE

UPDATE-  I must apoligize as when I started the Go Fund Me page I must have had Daxton's Birthday in mind. This little cutie turns 2 today!!!  Please wish him a Happy Birthday!!

Daxton is in good spirits and is preparing for his next round of Chemo. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

The Fontaine family is forever grateful for all of the support that has been shown to them and they Thank You!

Meet Daxton Fontaine! Daxton has just turned 2 years old but has been through more than many of the other kids his age. It started when he was still in utero. That's when his parents Steph and Jillian discovered he had Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). With this diagnosis comes the concern for many other health issues. One of those issues includes possible heart problems. Sure enough it was determined that Daxton had some holes in his heart that would need medical attention sometime after he was born.

As it turned out, some complications during pregnancy caused Daxton to arrive 3 weeks early via C-section. At this point they confirmed the presence of the holes in his heart but what was more concerning was a problem they found with his aorta (the main vein that supplies oxygenated blood throughout the body). This required emergency surgery and 24 hours after being born, Dax was on a flight, accompanied by a medical team, headed to Vancouver Children's Hospital.

Mom and Dad followed the next day. As you can imagine, being pulled from your support system and having just gone through a C-section operation, this was very painful in so many ways!

The surgery was a success! And after a couple of weeks, the Fontaine family was headed back home.

As his parents waited for Daxton to grow big enough for the next heart surgery, the Doctors noticed that his blood platelet levels were often low. This was deceiving because they seemed to fluctuate up and down based on if Daxton was sick or not. There was a stretch in which Daxton got Croup, followed by pneumonia, followed by the common cold followed by pneumonia again! To say the least, the Fontaine's Christmas holidays were a drag this year!

Each time Dax got sick, the pending plans for the second heart surgery kept getting postponed! What a roller-coaster ride of emotions!

It was during one of the last blood tests however, that their pediatrician noted that not only were the platelet levels low, so were Daxton's red and white blood cell count. This prompted a follow-up with hematology where they received the devastating news that Dax has Leukemia. Specifically he was in the early stages of AML (Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia).

Chemotherapy treatments have started and Dax is through 2 of 5 planned rounds thus far!

So far, Daxton is responding well to the chemo! He is such a strong little guy! No cancer will hold him down!

Treatments are scheduled to continue over the next 7-8 months and will be very taxing on the Fontaine family. With long Hospital stays and everything that comes with that , we are asking for your support for the Fontaine family during their time of need.

They appreciate all of the support friends and families have given throughout the ordeal so far!

The Fontaine's THANK YOU for your generosity!
