Hello!!
Our names are Claire Connolly (pictured far left) and Rachael Meyer (pictured far right) and we are sophomores majoring in International Relations at Tufts University. We are trying to get to Honduras for a medical service project over spring break! Instead of your typical college spring break vacation, we want to invest our time with Action for Education, an organization that works to create new and sustainable opportunities for communities in Honduras. We are both currently running social media and doing research for Action for Education through our college’s BUILD Latin America club, and would like to further our involvement with Action for Education by participating in their medical service trip to Honduras running from March 18th - 25th of 2017.
During this trip, volunteers and local workers employed by Action for Education will set up a temporary clinic that will provide care to a community that otherwise does not have access to medical services any other time of the year. Last year on the same trip, they set up a clinic for two weeks in the community of Corquin Copan and treated 2,311 patients and filled 7,245 prescriptions!! The following is a picture of patients lined up to visit the clinic in 2016.
The money you donate will go toward our plane tickets to Honduras (around $500 each), and toward the program fees ($1,300 each) which will cover our own housing and meals but also the various costs of running the clinic. This includes providing local jobs, since the clinic needs Honduran doctors, translators, dentists, etc.
The total we need is $3,600 by February 18th.
In addition to helping thousands of people who would otherwise not have any access to health care, this trip will give the two of us hands on experience in Honduras that we have needed ever since beginning our work with Action for Education. It will finally allow us to talk to locals, experience the development, culture, and infrastructure of Honduras, and view the site of the Trinidad nursing school the Tufts BUILD Latin America organization is currently constructing. It will impact our future work with the organization by giving us in-country experience and information that will greatly enhance our ability to provide comprehensive and in-depth research. It will also equip us with the experience necessary to reach out to the public effectively and with a more personal message about our organization's work in Honduras.
If we do not raise enough money by February 18th, or are unable to go on the trip for whatever reason, we will refund each donor who generously supported our cause.
We will be sending each donor a personal thank you message that will include our contact information. If you choose to send us your email address using our contact information, we can send you a picture and some information about the result of our work in Honduras at the conclusion of our trip.
