Medical Mission to Jordan

With over 70 million people being driven from their homes across the planet due to civil wars and unimaginable human rights violations, the refugee crisis has become the number one challenge of our time. Thousands race for safe haven with nothing more than a bag of belongings. Many die along the way. Many are children. All seek peaceful lands and protection, and all have been terrorized.
The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is a non-profit, non-political, professional organization in the United States that provides humanitarian assistance to communities in need. Founded in 1998, SAMS sponsores field hospitals, ambulances and training for medical personnel, and conducts medical missions throughout the Middle East proividng care to displaced Syrians. Last year, SAMS treated 1.4 million patients. Most recently, SAMS provided emergent care to those in need in hurricane-torn Houston, Texas.
In January of 2017, I had the honor of serving as a nurse in SAMS 10 day medical mission to the Zaatari Camp in Jordan, the 2cd largest refugee camp in the world. 77 volunteers from 8 different countries joined hands to provide care to 60,00 refugees-specifically in, internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, neurology, dentistry, nephrology, OBGYN, cardiology and dermatology (my field). Every person I cared for exuded courage, resiliency, humility and profund gratitude. It was the highlight of my 27 years as an RN.
I have been invited to return, once again, as a participant in SAM's medical mission to Jordan in January 2018. I feel an obligation to use my skills in order to help this population who are in such dire need: we are, after all, brothers and sisters of the same large family. As a volunteer, I must pay for all expenses out of pocket except meals. My expenses includes airfare, hotel and extra baggage fees for the medical supplies I bring. The cost of travel and hotel is approximately $3,000. I ask, gratefully, for any financial support to help cover these expenses so that I may participate in this mission. Funds are neded by mid December at the latest.
